Eye Pro 2013:

Astigmatism Reduction Calculator

This tool calculates the Astigmatic Correction Reduction occurring when placing the incision “off-axis” (away from the steeper corneal meridian) or when a Toric IOL is misaligned. This assumes that the procedure you are going to perform can fully correct the preoperative astigmatism. These are vector calculations and do not take into account other parameters such as corneal elasticity or any nomograms.

Incision Misalignment & Astigmatic Correction Reduction:

  1°      = 3%

  3°      = 10%

  5°      = 17%

  10°    = 35%

  15°    = 52%

  20°    = 69%

  25°    = 85%

  30°    =100% (zero correction)

  >30°  = Astigmatism Induction on opposite meridian (maximum when 90° away).

Example A:

Preop astigmatism: 3.50 D @90°; Incision location: @100°

Final predicted astigmatism: 1.22 D @140°; Correction Achieved: 65.27%

Example B:

Preop astigmatism: 3.50 D @90°; Incision location: @90°

Final predicted astigmatism: 0 D; Steep Meridian: N/A; Correction Achieved: 100%
