Since many years Dr Edmondo Borasio, former Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and currently Head of the Corneal and Refractive Surgery Department at Burjeel Hospital (Abu Dhabi) has been dedicating his spare time to developing software to help ophthalmologists performing otherwise complex and time consuming calculations such as POST-LASIK BIOMETRY, VECTOR ASTIGMATISM ANALYSIS and GROUP OUTCOME ANALYSIS.

In 2006 he developed BESSt formula for the estimation of IOL power in post-LASIK and post-PRK cataract cases and has presented the results of his work at a number of international forums. The original article on BESSt was published on the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in 2006 and the method were described in detail in a book published in 2012 (Elevation Based Corneal Tomography 2nd edition, Jaypee-Highlights, Editor Michael Belin). BESSt 2 was subsequently developed and presented at several international conferences, although it was never published. According to our internal (unpublished) analysis this is still among the most accurate regression formulas in the world for this purpose.

In 2009 he developed Eye Pro, the first ophthalmological app ever released on the Apple Store. Since then, the software has been continuously and meticulously improved with the elimination of bugs and the addition of always new functions. Other apps were also developed, such as AstigMASTER, AstigPLOT, VA Converter and Eye Sketch. The apps are currently being used by thousands of happy ophthalmologist worldwide.

Dr Borasio is member of the prestigious IOL Power Club (a non profit organization devolved to the advancing science of intraocular power calculation) and for many years he has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Refractive Surgery.
